New Versions Released!

PlanetariaX has now been updated and should now show a lot more accuracy re : planetary positions.

I've also made the decision to create another version which is ad funded to increase awareness of my app a little.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the update, but planet positions as well as star calculations are still wrong on a large scale. Have you ever compared your program's calculations with some other software?

  2. Hello ... yup, I've compared the star positions and planet positions with other software such as nightsky.co.uk and the star positions are pretty bang on perfect whereas the planets do vary slightly (I think I must use a different algorithm) but nothing too much.

If the stars are in the wrong position then it suggests to me that perhaps it's the time zone? as at the moment, I grab the time zone from the device to calculate the local sidereal time. I'm currently working on a time-zone selector that will allow you to adjust this.

What size of error are you seeing? Would it correspond to a time-zone error or are you seeing completely wrong positions for the planets?

Note - I've just noticed that venus and mercury are in the wrong positions but the others do seem ok? I will check.
